Famous already in Roman period for its wines, the Adige Valley was
an important wine district above all in Middle Age, esteemed by
Bavarians and Swabians too.
Adige Valley, the principal nucleus of wine production in the province
of Trento, is one of the two wine districts of the region. The south
side of this district is called Vallagarina and here is produced
the red "Mezermino"; the zone of Trento, between Adige
and Sarca, is famous for the production of the Doc wines "Casteller"
and "Trentino".
The Lakes Valley is the country of Nosiola vineyard, instead the
Sorni hills are the country of the Doc sparkling-wines "Sorni"
and "Pinot".
One of the most evocative wine districts of the region is the place
called "Campo Rotaliano", between Mezzolombardo and Mezzacorona,
which produces the red "Terodelgo Doc".
The wine district of Alto Adige, from Salorno to Silandro and Isarco
Valley as far as Bressanone, is the country of the Doc "Lago
di Caldaro", the Doc "Colli di Bolzano" and "Santa
Maddalena".
At Terlano, on the west bank of Adige river, the homonymous Doc
cultivation produces famous white wines as the Pinot, the Sauvignone
and the Chardonnay.
The famous wine called "Meranese", made with Schiava grapes,
is produced in the land of Merano, a city where, in October, there's
a big "Grapes feast".
In Venosta Valley the Doc production embraces the red wines "Black
Pinot" and "Schiava" and the whites Chardonnay, Kerner,
Muller Thurgau, Pinot (white and grey) and the Tarminer.
The Doc production of Isarco Valley (near Bolzano), from Fiè
to Sciliar to Bressanone, is dominated by the white wines as the
Sylvaner. |
